Biography
Architecture, light and the built environment.
I am an architectural and fine-art photographer based in London. My work is rooted in the built environment, but what interests me is less the documentation of a place than the way geometry, light, colour, scale and human presence can transform it.
Minimalism has been an important part of my visual language for many years, particularly in architecture and long exposure. More recently, I have also been exploring the opposite impulse - density, layering, colour and visual excess - through my writing and photographic practice.
Alongside personal and commissioned work, I have written seven photography books with Laurence King, National Geographic and Ammonite Press, including The Minimalist Photographer, The Maximalist Photographer and Mastering Long Exposure Photography.
Teaching and speaking are a substantial part of what I do. I work privately with beginners, serious enthusiasts and photographers developing longer-term projects, and I give talks and workshops for photography organisations, clubs, brands and events.
